The Arakkha Army (AA) stated that 372 prisoners, including political detainees, were evacuated from Thandwe Prison, which is under military tension in Myanmar, and brought to safety. The political prisoners have been returned to their homes.
On July 16th, at 5:30 p.m., the Arakkha Army successfully occupied most of the Thandwe area, including the world-famous Ngapali Beach, Mazin Airport, and the Thandwe hotel zone. During the evacuation of Thandwe Prison, seven prisoners out of the total 372 were injured by gunfire from the terrorist military council. It has been reported that five people died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries during medical treatment.
Among the rescued prisoners were 43 political detainees, 2 of whom died during the evacuation. The remaining 41 political prisoners, including those with injuries and 17 in urgent need of medical care, were receiving adequate healthcare from the Arakkha Army. The terrorist military council was reportedly launching attacks with heavy weapons from the sea.
Due to recent floods and the pursuit of several military council troops who escaped with weapons, all political prisoners have been temporarily relocated to safe havens. On August 6th, all political prisoners were reportedly returned to their homes and families as the security situation has now reached a certain level of assurance.
Reports indicate that AA officials have gathered information and provided essential healthcare and emergency food support in line with humanitarian standards. The Arakkha Army also stated that criminal prisoners are still being detained, their crimes are being re-examined, and they are being dealt with in a legal manner.
