Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun Calls for Referring the Military Junta to ICC through UN Security Council

On October 16, at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, called for the referral of the Myanmar military junta to the International Criminal Court (ICC) through the UN Security Council during a session discussing “the scope and application of the principle of universal jurisdiction" of the Sixth Committee.

He also urged the international community and the UN to impose sanctions on Myanmar’s military, including bans on arms sales and the supply of aviation fuel.

U Kyaw Moe Tun highlighted that heads of Myanmar’s judiciary, including the Union Attorney General, are involved in the junta’s crimes.

Additionally, U Kyaw Moe Tun had a separate discussion with Mr. Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the same day, October 16.⁩
