Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun Attends the 79th UN General Assembly

The 79th United Nations General Assembly opened yesterday in New York City, United States of America, with Myanmar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, and his team in attendance.


Yesterday, the 78th session was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, marking the closing ceremony of the 78th United Nations General Assembly (78th UNGA) and the first plenary meeting of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (79th UNGA). The opening ceremony of the 79th UNGA followed.


The Myanmar delegation, led by U Kyaw Moe Tun, attended both events. During the closing ceremony of the 78th General Assembly, UN Secretary-General António Guterres commended H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the 78th UNGA, for his efforts toward "Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainable Development" during his tenure.


Following this, H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang, President-elect and former Prime Minister of Cameroon, who has been elected to serve as President of the 79th UNGA, took the oath of office in line with UN tradition and received the gavel from H.E. Mr. Dennis Francis.


It has been learned that the Credentials committee, consisting of nine members, has been formed to determine the representatives of member states. The committee is made up of Antigua and Barbuda, Cabo Verde, China, Dominica, Laos, Liberia, Monaco, Russia, and the United States of America.
