Almost two thousand people are fleeing due to the military raid in Katha.
On August 31, residents reported that nearly 2,000 civilians had to flee to safety after the military council troops raided and burned three villages in Katha Township.
On August 28th and 29th, the Military Council's nearly 100-strong column raided three villages such as Banbwegon, Inndayan, and Doneawt, and burned down their homes. Residents said that the fleeing villagers have not returned to the village until today, August 31, because they are not sure about their security. "The column entered the three villages. Firstly, they entered and burned down Banbwegon. The residents who fled have not yet dared to come back. The exact number of houses that were burned down is not yet known."
The villages raided by the military council had between 200 and 300 houses and a population of nearly two thousand. Residents said that the column came from Ngaoh village, Mabein Township in northern Shan State, which borders Katha Township, and returned to Ngaoh village on the afternoon of August 30.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), nearly 800,000 people have fled their homes in Sagaing after the coup.
