Acting President Duwa Lashi La Warns Against Becoming a Proxy or Pawn for World Powers

Acting President Duwa Lashi La has issued a stern warning to avoid Myanmar becoming either a proxy or a pawn of global powers. Speaking at the National Unity Government's 26th Cabinet Meeting of 2024, held on September 24, he emphasized the importance of safeguarding national dignity and sovereignty amidst the complexities of international politics.

"Interest is a key consideration in practical politics, and we cannot ignore the realities when analyzing the foreign policies of major nations," Acting President Duwa Lashi La stated. "In the complex landscape of international relations, it is crucial to avoid becoming either a proxy or a pawn for the world's powerful nations. Regardless of a country's size or influence, we must uphold the dignity of our nation."

He further stressed, "We must respect the rights of all ethnic groups in our country to shape their own destiny, and our independence and sovereignty must be preserved."

The President also addressed the internal challenges Myanmar faces, particularly in the context of global power competition. He warned that the dynamics among domestic forces have created a politically and militarily sensitive situation, making it vital to avoid any actions that could prolong military dictatorship.

"Politically, we are navigating a landscape of contradictions—rough and soft, hard and gentle, hot and cold. It is vital to approach these paradoxes with care and seriousness," Duwa Lashi La said. "We must not allow the current political climate to lead to the extension of military rule."
