Locals said that because the Military Council ordered the closure of the Tema oil field in Nyaung U Township, in Mandalay Division, the livelihood of about 100,000 people who depend on the oil field has become difficult.

He said that the military council had informed them that it would be closed on May 21st and that the goods would have to be transported by 8:00 a.m. on May 29th.
According to the instructions of the Military Council's Nyaung U Township Planning and Administration Committee, Tetma oil landowners will start drilling oil wells, starting at 6:00 a.m. on May 21st to produce, carry and it is stated in the May 20th statement of the Tetma Oil Landowners Association Committee that it is forbidden to do what is being sold.
If the statement is not followed, action will be taken according to the existing law as well as the local law of the Tetma Petroleum Industry Association Committee, they said.
