Locals said that the TNLA took full control of Kyaukme in northern Shan State, Myanmar, today, August 6. The headquarters of the 501st and 502nd Light Infantry Battalions, as well as the No. 1 Military Operations Command Headquarters (MOC1), were completely captured by the TNLA at midnight yesterday. Until midnight, the coup armyโ€™s fighter jets dropped bombs, but the TNLA was able to capture the military headquarters. TNLA rule has now started in the city. The area is being cleared, and a large cache of weapons and ammunition has also been captured. Since the coup army lost the remaining troops, Kyaukme has become a city without an army presence.

At the beginning of July, the TNLA controlled Kyaukme and enclosed the remaining battalions. In the third week of July, the coup army sent more than 300 reinforcements from southern Shan State to Kyaukme, but hardly any of the reinforcements succeeded. Kyaukme is a district town, and among the six townships in Kyaukme districtโ€”Kyaukme township, Nawnghkio township, Namtu township, Monglon township, and Mongngawt townshipโ€”only Hsipaw township remains unoccupied by the TNLA. In the second wave of Operation 1027, Kyaukme City became the 11th city captured by TNLA forces.
