AAPP announced that there are 138 students in prison.
Students who have been arrested and imprisoned since the military coup. AAPP, the Association for the Support of Political Prisoners, announced on July 4 that there are a total of 138 students.
From February 2021 to July 4, 2023, 31 students were among those who were arrested and sentenced to prison. There are 107 students involved.
Among them, 65 people from Yangon were arrested the most. University students who were arrested for anti-military activities. The students are being sentenced to long prison terms.
On June 30th, third-year student Ko Htet Paing Soe, who is the vice president of the Yangon University of Economics Students' Union, was sentenced to ten years in prison under Section 50(j) of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
On June 27th, Dagon University student Ma Wuttyi Aung was sentenced to four years in prison under Section 52(a) of the Anti-Terrorism Act. She was sentenced to three years in prison under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code, so she will serve a total of seven years in prison.
According to AAPP's statistics, from the time of the military coup to July 4, 2023, 23,674 people were arrested nationwide, of which 6,645 were sentenced to prison.
