The Chinese authorities closed the border gate after the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and allied revolutionary forces captured prisoners of war and confiscated 100 weapons during their takeover of Kanpaiti.

On November 20, KIA-led forces launched an offensive to seize Kanpaiti, a strategic town on the China-Myanmar border. Following their successful operation, the forces detained several prisoners of war, including a captain, and seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition.

The KIA raised the Kachin national flag at the China-Myanmar border friendship tunnel in Kanpaiti and assumed full control of the city's security. KIA soldiers are now guarding both the town and the border gate.

The entire Kachin Special Region 1, which was previously under the control of the Military Councilโ€™s subordinate group, Zahkung Ting Yingโ€™s National Democratic Army of Kachin (NDAK), has been occupied by the KIA. This development marks a significant shift in control within the region.
