Singapore - Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju made history on December 12 by becoming the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion. The 18-year-old defeated reigning champion Ding Liren of China in the finals of the World Chess Championship held in Singapore.

With this victory, Gukesh surpassed the legendary Garry Kasparov, becoming the youngest world chess champion ever. He also became only the second Indian to win the prestigious title, following in the footsteps of five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand.

Gukesh clinched the championship after securing 7.5 points in the 14th game, edging past Ding Liren, who finished with 6 points. In a gesture of sportsmanship, Gukesh praised his opponent after the match, stating, "I had to compete against a true champion."

The victory marks a new era in the world of chess, with Gukesh set to be a prominent figure in the game's future.
