Tom Andrews, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar, has urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Myanmarโ€™s military council chief over alleged crimes against the Rohingya.

Andrews described the request for the arrest warrant as a long-overdue step toward establishing the rule of law in Myanmar.

He emphasized that the ICC should seize this critical opportunity and commended the ICC Prosecutor for persistent efforts toward securing the arrest warrant. He expressed hope for a swift resolution of the matter.

Andrews also called on the international community to support the ICCโ€™s initiative to ensure justice and accountability in Myanmar.

On 27 November, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for the military council chief, citing crimes against Rohingya and other non-Rohingya civilians.
