A medical college has been established in the western part of Demoso, Karenni State, an area controlled by revolutionary forces, according to its principal, Dr. Myo Khant Ko Ko.
The college, which opened yesterday, received hundreds of applications. However, 37 students were selected, including 31 women and 6 men. A fresher welcoming ceremony, along with the symbolic presentation of duty coats and stethoscopes, was held to mark the opening.
Dr. Myo Khant Ko Ko stated that the medical college aims to provide education for future generations, address human resource needs in Karenni State, and ensure the continuity of healthcare services in the event that doctors from other regions depart.
The opening of the medical college required two years of preparation. The project was a collaborative effort involving the National Unity Government, Ministry of Education, Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC), Karenni State Doctors Association, local and international doctors, and Karenni State civil society organizations.
