On November 20, after the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) launched an offensive and captured Kanpaikti (Kan Paik Ti) town in Kachin Stateโ€™s Special Region 1 along the China-Myanmar border, 302 junta troops fled into China. That evening, China repatriated the fleeing troops to Muse, a town in northern Shan State.

The transfer took place at the Man Wein border crossing in Muse, facilitated by officials of the Chinese Peopleโ€™s Liberation Army (PLA), who were in full military uniform and armed. They handed over the junta troops to Myanmar military officials.

This marks the first time such a transfer has occurred, as China exerts pressure to prevent further clashes in Muse, a border town still controlled by the junta but besieged by the Northern Alliance.
