The Chinland Council forces, consisting of the Chin National Army (CNA) and Chinland Defence Forces (CDFs), launched a joint offensive against the hill-based tactical base of the military junta's 269th Infantry Battalion (KaLaYa 269) in Thantlang town. This town, located in Chin State, is known for its strong resistance against the junta. The attack resulted in the capture of various weapons and ammunition, as evidenced by photos.
CNA Spokesperson Salai Htet Ni stated that they are pursuing the junta soldiers who fled during the battle. While they have captured the KaLaYa 269 base, Salai Htet Ni noted that Thantlang town is not fully liberated yet, as military junta forces are still hiding in two locations within houses in the town.
Clearance and assault operations are ongoing. Since July 22, the Chin joint forces have been attacking junta outposts between Thantlang and Hakha, the capital of Chin State. The operation to capture Thantlang town began in early August, with this tactical base being successfully seized on August 5. Thantlang has suffered repeated arson attacks by the military since September 2021, resulting in the destruction of over 1,000 houses, including historic churches over 200 years old.
Thantlang, situated over 4,000 feet above sea level, is strategically significant for both the Chin revolutionary forces and the military junta, particularly for securing the junta's hill-based stronghold in Capital Hakha. Control over Thantlang's territories is crucial. Salai Htet Ni emphasized its importance for warfare and for interests of the public. Currently, Chin revolutionary forces have captured most of the junta bases inside Thantlang, which is in Hakha District near the India-Myanmar border, out of seven locations occupied by the junta forces.
