๐ก๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฏ๐ฌ, ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฐ โ A Thai fisherman was killed, and 31 others were detained after a Myanmar warship fired on three Thai fishing boats operating within Thai territorial waters, according to initial reports from local authorities cited by ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ.
The incident occurred early this morning approximately 20 kilometers west of Koh Phayam when a Myanmar navy vessel opened fire on the fishing boats. Two of the boats were captured and taken into Myanmarโs waters, along with 31 crew membersโfour Thai nationals and 27 Myanmar nationals. Two crew members from a boat that managed to escape sustained injuries during the attack.
A Thai patrol vessel stationed near Koh Phayam arrived at the scene to assist, transporting the injured to Ranong, where they arrived at the jetty around 3:30 a.m., according to ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ. The report also noted that some crew members from one of the seized boats jumped overboard to evade capture; one individual drowned and is being transported to Ranong for identification.
In response to the incident, the Thai-Myanmar Maritime Border Fisheries Coordination Centre (SEA) has reportedly teamed up with the Thai-Myanmar Local Border Committee to file a formal protest against Myanmarโs patrol vessels entering Thai waters and towing away Thai boats. Efforts are still underway to secure the release of the detained fishermen.
