Chinese private military companies (PMCs) are expected to be deployed to secure the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State. This follows the formation of a joint security company between the Myanmar military junta and the Chinese government. Military sources indicate that planned measures include deploying advanced jammers, surveillance drones, and landmines around the SEZ area.

In October, a working committee was established to facilitate the creation of the joint security company between the Myanmar junta and Chinese government. As part of this, preparations are underway to accelerate security measures for the Kyaukphyu project.

Major General Kyaw Shwe Tun, who also serves as the head of the Southern Naval Command, has been leading the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone as its Chairman since his appointment by the military junta in 2023.
