21 people were killed and more than 40 injured due to air strikes in Chin in one month

A project officer of the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO) said that the military junta in Chin State used nearly 100 bombs in more than 50 airstrikes in April, and most of the victims were civilians.

"As the military junta could not conduct ground operations, it began attacking more by air," he said.

As a result of the military junta’s air strike, 21 people were killed, 17 of whom were civilians, and more than 40 people were injured in total.

In more than 2 years after the military coup, there have been around 200 airstrikes in Chin State and more than 350 bombs.

As a result of these attacks, 40 civilians, including local defense forces, were killed and more than 100 were injured. Due to the military council's air attacks, 40 civilians were killed during the coup over two years ago, 21 of whom were killed in April this year.

Reportedly, in Hakha, Htantalan, and Mintat, the military council carried out the most airstrikes this April, in Chin state.

In Chin State, the offensive of the local defense forces is strong, and the increase in local defense groups, A project officer of CHRO said that the increase in attack capability is due to the support of the Chin people, and the public has been attacked by air.

"When we analyzed the airstrikes, we found that the attack on the ground was not due to the military situation, but it was aimed at civilian areas without operations," he said.

In Chin State's 9 townships, except for the city, all rural areas are controlled by the Chin Defense Forces, so the military council conducted more air strikes in 2023 than in 2021 and 2022.

On the night of April 27th, in Htantalan Township, 9 civilians, including 4 children between the ages of 5 months and 11 years, were killed when the military junta bombed the center of Talanlo village with a fighter jet.

During the last month of April, the military junta carried out 19 airstrikes in Mintat Township, killing 3 innocent civilians and injuring 9 people, and destroying 9 civilian homes, Mintat Chin Defense Force announced.

"There are many human rights violations in Chin State. If we consider, war crimes and crimes against humanity that have been committed. They also attacked civilians indiscriminately. Hospitals, and monasteries, are being bombed by the military junta," said the CHRO official.
