A plane carrying 67 people, including five crew members, crashed in Kazakhstan, leaving 38 dead. Among the 29 survivors, two children were hospitalized, according to Russiaโs state-owned RIA Novosti news agency.
The flight, en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny in Russiaโs North Caucasus region, attempted an emergency landing in the Kazakh city of Aktau after a bird strike. The incident was confirmed by the Russian Civil Aviation Authority, which reported that the bird strike prompted the emergency diversion.
Mobile phone footage captured the plane descending before erupting into flames upon impact. The passengers on board included 42 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, and three Kazakhstan nationals, according to Kazakh officials.
