Four Mon revolutionary groups have agreed to merge into a single Mon National Armed Forces to strengthen their military campaign against the Military Council.
The Mon Liberation Army (MLA), Mon State Defence Force (MSDF), Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF), the Mon National Liberation Army (MNLA-AD), and the four divisions of the Mon Army issued a joint statement on December 19 announcing their decision.
The agreement followed a military cooperation meeting held by the Mon Revolutionary Armyโs 4th Division on December 18. According to MSDF Chairman Dr. Thiri Monchan, two key decisions were reached during the talks.
โThe first point is that all four Mon Revolutionary Forces have agreed to form a single Mon National Armed Army in the future. The second agreement is that the four groups will cooperate militarily and conduct joint strategic operations,โ said Dr. Monchan.
Dr. Monchan emphasized that this military alliance would increase operational efficiency.
โIn Mon State and related regions, the lack of a strategically integrated military unit caused fragmented efforts, slowing down operations. This kind of cooperation will accelerate military campaigns and strengthen strategic operations,โ he explained.
The Mon State Revolutionary Force (MSRF) operates under the Mon Federal Council (MSFC) and the Mon State Defence Force (MSDF). Their alliance has been active since April.
The New Mon State Party/ New Mon State Party (Anti-Dictatorship) [NMSP-AD], which split from the New Mon Party, has also been involved in military operations alongside other revolutionary forces in Mon State.
The Mon Liberation Army (MLA) has undergone military training with the Taโang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and is conducting joint military operations with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).
Dr. Thiri Monchan highlighted that the unification of the four Mon armed forces symbolizes the Mon nationโs unity. โThe Mon people must stand together and fight as one,โ he urged.
Since the military coup, the New Mon State Party (NMSP), a Mon ethnic armed group, has maintained its commitment to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) in ongoing discussions with the Military Council.
