The Arakan Army (AA) has released a new video clip highlighting the current situation at the Western Regional Military Command (Na Pa Kha) Headquarters in Ann, Rakhine State, where heavy fighting is ongoing. The video, released at midnight on December 17, serves as a stark warning to junta forces still resisting inside the base.
The 1-minute-41-second footage shows scenes of prisoners of war, believed to be those junta soldiers and their families who surrendered from the Western Regional Military Command Headquarters. Footage also depicts the command building, key structures, military vehicles and equipment damaged by attacks and engulfed in fire.
In a direct message to remaining junta troops resisting inside the base, the AA reiterated its warning: โNo Early Surrender in White Flag, No Happy New Year!โ urging them to lay down their arms without delay.
This follows an earlier video released late at night on December 16, showing junta soldiers surrendering under white flags.
The AA is conducting operations to fully capture the Western Regional Military Command Headquarters in Ann, along with remaining junta outposts in Gwa.
If the AA captures the Western Command Headquarters in Ann, it would mark the second major regional command center lost by the junta this year.
In August, the Myanmar military suffered its first-ever loss of a regional command headquarters when the Northern Alliance, including the MNDAA and allied forces, overran the Northeastern Regional Military Command (Ya Ma Kha) Headquarters in Lashio, northern Shan State.
